Plank pose - correct position of shoulders?

Hi there,
I have a beginner question about plank pose.

I remember the instructor saying to “press down” with the hands to the mat, so I did, but doing that I felt like perhaps I was pressing down too much. In fact, I felt that the shoulder blades were drawn apart, creating a kind of curved line from shoulder to shoulder (like a small hump), and that the collarbones were kind of “closing”.

Conversely, when I tried to keep the shoulders flat and “aligned”, the shoulder blades not excessively distant from the spine, and the collarbones open, there was no hump on my back (yay!) but I felt quite a lot of uncomfortable tension and strain.

Can you please suggest me how to align/position my shoulders correctly when doing plank?

Thank you in advance!

Hi, that tutorial, or another on chatauranga (if me spelling is ok), might help you, as it helped me: https://www.doyogawithme.com/content/shoulder-stability
Hope you find the answer for you!

https://www.doyogawithme.com/content/power-yoga-beginners This is also a terrific class. It is challenging, but Fiji breaks down a lot of different poses with great instruction! I have done this class several times when I need to go back to the basics of poses.
