Starting again after health issues

I have not practiced yoga for almost two years now because of health reasons… multiple surgeries that led to a problem with chronic pain and although i was very serious about the medical treatment (i am finally pain free without meds and my health is so much better), I gained about 30 pounds and I feel extremely weak… I really need to get back to my practice but I don’t know where to start… I feel heavy and stiff… I have tried a few beginners classes but I feel I need more than that but the intermediate feel a bit too much, I don’t want to overdo it. Is there a challenge or a program here where I can start small but progress quickly avoiding injuries? I am scare to use my body too much right now but I know as soon as I start, I will fall in love with movement again… I’m just not there yet… any suggestions?? Thank you!!!

Hi Carmen, I’m mostly cheering you for your recovery and your return, and saying hello. I am a Beginner 2 / Intermediate and find just enough comfort and challenge in many classes mostly with David, Josh, Araba, Ron, Andrea, Guy and Melissa. I’m learning to ride the comfort/challenge tension for the longer ride of a life of practice, and also finding that a little yoga everyday goes a long way vs. only saving my time for longer class sessions (which I still love esp for Nyks Yin and Tianne’s Hip Opening). That’s just me. I hope you continue to be well and limber. Cheers.

Hi Carmen, I am so sorry to hear that you have been struggling. I trust your body is wise and is healing and ready to regain strength. Tara has a great series for this! It is called Back to the Mat!!! There are classes in the series on different topics, here is one:

Hi Carmen , You’re not the only one! Excellent question!-because I think many struggle to “get back to the mat” when some health issues get in the way. We are more cautious-not wanting to injure ourselves. So glad you asked so I too could benefit from these suggestions.
Best of luck to you!
Heather

Melissa has some great beginner-level classes to get you moving again. :slightly_smiling_face:
