DYWM Chromecast?

Hi everyone. I love DYWM and have been using it for a couple of years. I try and practice every morning. We have just moved and we now have a Smart TV in the living room, where I practise yoga, that only accepts Chromecast from devices. I previously mirrored on an Apple TV directly from DYWM, which worked fine.

As I couldn’t find a way to Chromecast directly from the site, I went to Youtube (which plays from my Playstation through the TV) to try and find the classes I wanted to do. However, these are organised in a different way - as it’s Youtube format - and I can’t easily find, for example, the videos for the Stay Strong September challenge. I don’t think all the classes are on Youtube.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to tackle this not very serious but a bit annoying problem? Ideally I’d like to Chromecast directly from DYWM and not bother with the convoluted Youtube/Playstation/Smart TV route. BTW I am in New Zealand.

Many thanks, Ally

Hi Ally.

Thanks for the kind words. It’s nice to hear that you’re enjoying the site!

Your question has good timing. We’re just looking into casting our site using different units. Here’s what our research team has come up with. Apologies for the length, but it shows you how to cast using different devices.

Let me know if the info below answers your question. We are currently looking into other ways to do this.

How do I play DoYogaWithMe videos on Chromecast from my laptop or PC?

Chromecast allows you to “mirror” the screen of your laptop or computer onto your television using a Chrome Browser installed on a Mac, PC, or Chrome OS. To do so:

  1. Ensure that the Chromecast device and your laptop or computer are on the same WiFi network. You may also wish to plug your laptop in, because mirroring can drain the battery.

  2. Open Chrome browser on your computer and look at the toolbar at the upper right-hand corner of the screen. You may see the Google Cast icon on the toolbar, in which case click it and go to Step 3. If you do not see the Google Cast icon, click on the three vertical dots at the extreme right of Chrome's toolbar. Scroll down on the drop-down menu and click Cast then proceed to Step 3.

  3. This will open a box at the centre of your screen. If you have never used this feature before you may have to click "Okay, got it" to dismiss the welcome message. Then click the arrow in the top-left of the box and select either Cast Desktop to cast everything on your screen, or Cast Tab to cast the contents of the Chrome tab you are currently using.

  4. Click the arrow at the top left again and under Select Source pick your Chromecast device. Make sure the box for Audio Sharing is selected so audio will be cast to your TV.

  5. Your device will now cast audio and visuals onto your TV. Use your device to navigate to DoYogaWithMe’s website, select a video, expand it to full screen, and press play!

  6. To control the volume, click on the Chromecast icon at the top right of the Chrome toolbar, or scroll to Cast on the drop-down menu at the top-right of Chrome toolbar. This will bring up a menu where you can adjust the volume. You may also need to turn up the volume on your television.

  7. You can stop mirroring by exiting the Chrome browser.

Note: Chromecast should adjust to fill your entire TV screen, but if it does not you may need to change your TV’s aspect ratio or zoom settings in order to get the image to be full-screen.

How do I play DoYogaWithMe videos on Chromecast from my Android phone or tablet?

Chromecast allows you to “mirror” the screen of your Android phone or tablet onto your television. To do so:

  1. Ensure that the Chromecast device and your phone or tablet are on the same WiFi network. You may also wish to plug your device in, because mirroring can drain the battery.

  2. Open the Google Home app on your tablet or phone. This is the same app you used to set up the Chromecast device.

  3. Tap the Menu button in the top-left and select Cast Screen/Audio.

  4. On the following page, select Cast Screen/Audio, then select your Chromecast device from the list. Your screen should appear on the television. Make sure you rotate your phone or tablet into landscape mode to ensure it takes up the full TV screen. It may still be necessary to change your TV's aspect ratio or zoom settings in order to get the image to be full-screen.

  5. Use your phone or tablet to navigate to the DoYogaWithMe’s website, select a video, expand it to full screen, and press play!

  6. To stop mirroring, click the menu button on the Google Home app and select Disconnect.

Here’s a shortcut if you have an Android phone with software version 4.4.2 and newer:

  1. Ensure that the Chromecast device and television are turned on and that the Chromecast device and your phone or tablet are on the same WiFi network. You may also wish to plug your device in, because mirroring can drain the battery.

  2. Swipe down from the top of your screen to see your notifications area.

  3. Open your Quick Settings menu and lick on the Cast icon. If it isn't here, have a look for a menu button that gives you access to other Quick Settings.

  4. Tap the Cast button and select your Chromecast device from the list. This will begin casting your phone's display onto the TV.

  6. To stop mirroring, swipe to find your Quick Settings again and find Disconnect under the Casting Screen notification.

Note: Unfortunately, we do not know a way to mirror an iPhone or iPad display on Chromecast.
