Weight training

I am wondering if any of the yoga teachers on DYWM do weight training in addition to their yoga.

I am also wondering if weight training slows or assists progress with yoga.

No, none of our teachers do weight training now. Weight training is great for strength and muscle building. Like any intense workout regime, if it doesn’t incorporate stretching the muscles can tighten more quickly. However, it can help with poses that require a lot of strength, such as arm balances, chaturanga and planks, and working the muscles intensely can allow them to respond to stretch more effectively, since they are warm and pliable.

So, the two practices can be complimentary, but it depends on your approach, energy and available time.
